The Institute of Export & International Trade is expanding its team of in-house customs declarations specialists supporting traders as they adjust to new trade rules coming into force from 1 January 2021.
Some 20 new positions have been created in the growing team, an opportunity described by IOE&IT director general Marco Forgione as “exciting” for anyone who has experience working in customs.
The new hires will be working on the Trader Support Service (TSS) in particular – the service being provided by HMRC to help firms trading between Great Britain and Northern Ireland adapt to new processes taking effect on 1 January 2021.
The IOE&IT is part of a high-level consortium delivering the TSS.
Remote work supporting declarations
Successful candidates will be offered one-year contracts, with the possibility of extension, and salaries of up to £40,000 per year depending on experience.
The roles will be carried out via remote working, with occasional travel to the IOE&IT’s Peterborough office for training, 1-2-1 meetings and coaching.
Key responsibilities include:
- Using software to submit customs declarations
- Completing and transmitting customs declarations via approved software in a timely manner
- Reviewing commodity codes on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance
- Checking and confirming shipping documents are in order to enable customs clearance and release
‘Pivotal project’
Forgione called the new customs declarations team as “essential for delivering the pivotal TSS project”.
Joining the growing IOE&IT team is “an exciting opportunity to work on a trade project of national importance as the UK prepares for its new trading relationships from 1 January 2021,” he said.
