The Institute of Export & International Trade is launching a new report next week which looks at the digitalisation of trade and the benefits that could be unlocked by it.
The Trade Data and Digitalisation report will be unveiled at an event to be held at London’s Church House, Westminster on Tuesday 15 March at 6pm until 7.30pm, to which Daily Update readers are cordially invited to attend free of charge by registering here.
Trade slow to digitalise
While the digitalisation of international trade is proceeding slowly and piecemeal, with most transactions mostly relying on manual interventions, the IOE&IT’s new report identifies its benefits.
Wide benefits
These stand to be spread widely across firms, sectors, and government, deriving from increases in efficiency and from the many opportunities that arise for new goods, services and markets that will evolve alongside the technology-based backbone of digitalised trade.
In the UK, as in other economies where international trade plays a big role, the benefits from the digitalisation of international trade will be particularly large. It warrants priority focus. Containing the additional costs that flow from Brexit and Covid-related supply chain frictions provide further reasons.
