The Department for International Trade (DIT) has issued a series of updates to the trader community to mark the start of the year.
Below, the IOE&IT Daily Update highlights the most relevant parts of the communication for IOE&IT members.
Irish single window
The Republic of Ireland is continuing to implement a new single window system for goods entering the EU over its border.
Guidance is available on the Irish government website but the DIT is advising that its Export Support Service (ESS) can provide more specific support to direct traders to the appropriate information.
According to the Irish government, any businesses using the Common Health Entry Document (CHED) and Certificate of Inspection for Organic Conformity (COI) will be impacted.
From today (11 January) onwards both certificates will require electronic validation for an import declaration to be submitted. Any declarations made with an invalid certificate number for any CHED or COI declaration will be rejected.
The data fields on the customs import declaration will match exactly what is on the relevant CHED or COI.
Japan and Korea consultations
The DIT is surveying the opinions of UK businesses that export to or import from Japan in order to find out the issues that businesses face in trading. The survey can be accessed here.
The two countries trade under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which was the first new trade deal signed by the UK after its exit from the EU, but there are reports of slumping exports in goods and services since it was signed.
As previously covered by the IOE&IT Daily Update, the DIT also launched a ‘call for input’ on the future of the UK’s trading relationship with South Korea. This consultation will close 11.45pm on 2 February.
Budget consultation
HM Treasury is requesting written submissions on government policies for consideration ahead of the Spring Budget, either commenting on existing arrangements or suggesting new ideas.
The consultation will close on the 2 February.
