Last week, the UK government published its long-awaited draft plan for introducing remaining import controls on goods entering Britain from the EU.
The new Border Target Operating Model (TOM) is the result of extensive collaboration between national and regional governments, as well as the public and private sectors.
One aim of TOM is to reduce border friction and encourage trade by making it easier to move goods internationally, without any compromise in security standards.
This new model will include both EU and non-EU trade and be backed by over a £1bn in investment, with the eventual am of making the UK border “the most effective in the world”.
IOE&IT survey
As part of this, the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) is supporting the government’s consultation on the draft TOM by launching a new survey to make sure members have their say on the proposed changes.
IOE&IT wants to ensure that the views of international traders are properly represented, so is gathering the opinions of all interest parties to be submitted to the government to allow them to gain valuable feedback on their border plans.

The government is particularly interested in the following:
Your views on the new model for Safety and Security controls
Your views on the new model for Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) controls
What challenges meeting the proposed timeline for introducing the new model
What further detail is needed to prepare for the implementation of the new model
The cabinet office will host a series of stakeholder workshops to gather feedback, which IOE&IT will attend in order to represent your views.
