The All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group’s (APMG) Exporting After Brexit debate on Thursday March 9 is your chance to directly influence decision makers over policy as we leave the EU.

Panelists will include Institute director general, Lesley Batchelor OBE; Ian Bouquet-Taylor, group head of supplier excellence at Meggit; Richard Corbett MEP, former advisor to Herman Van Rompuy; and William Butler-Adams OBE, chief executive of Brompton Bicycles.

Held at the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, Houses of Parliament, from 10.00 – 11.30, the event will examine the effect of Brexit on British manufacturers in exporting, importing and cross-border supply chains. Bringing together parliamentarians, international trade experts and exporters, it will specifically cover how the following issues affect manufacturers:

·         The imposition of tariffs on trade

 ·         Non-tariff benefits of EU membership

·         Ongoing co-operation with the customs union

·         Integrated cross-border supply chains

·         Support for British exporters

·         Free-trade agreements and the World Trade Organisation

The audience will be encouraged to participate by making their opinions known and asking the panel questions.

Organiser, Dr George Dibb, head of manufacturing, design & innovation at Policy Connect, said: “British manufacturers are concerned about the effect Brexit will have on our trading relationship with our biggest export market – the EU. In addition, if the UK loses access to the Free-Trade Agreements it has negotiated through the EU, international trade will be affected too.

“After Brexit, it is vital that British manufacturers speak with a united voice to get the best deal after we leave the EU and this event will see manufacturers and exporters debate the needs of the sector.”

Lesley Batchelor added: “This is another chance for members and those in the wider export community to put their views, knowledge and concerns to those who will be navigating our departure from the EU.

“It is vital that the opinions of active international traders are heard before and during negotiations. The debate is one of a series of events, opportunities to meet politicians and surveys that the Institute is partnering or organising to ensure that this happens.”
