We’ve added an additional module to our innovative two year Foundation Degree in Professional Practice of International Trade. Developed in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, the flexible learning course programme gets underway in September 2013.
Aimed at equipping students with the academic and professional skills essential for successful higher education workplace study – the new module is designed to develop analytical, technological, communication and learning skills.
Explains IOE Director General, Lesley Bachelor: “The new module will position all learning in a vocational context by focusing on the key features of successful management in international trade.
“Examining the needs and characteristics of organisations in this sector, along with internal and external constraints and challenges that impact on decision making, the module will adopt a flexible approach centred on our students’ personal development planning process – meeting the needs of the most diverse student requirements.
Below is an outline of the new module’s content. Assessments will comprise a combination of coursework and the practical element will entail a video presentation.

- Use of information and communication Technology
- Managing own time and resources
- Investigative skills and techniques
- Description, discussion, evaluation and analysis
- Effective communication, written and oral
- Problem solving and the use of case studies
- Preparing process for handling the academic assessment
- Citing and referencing of material
Work Based Learning and Personal Development
- Reflective practice
- Responsibilities of the learner
- Learning theories with emphasis on learning styles
- Learning & working groups with emphasis on the role of learning partners
- Self-assessment of skills, understanding and attributes for the work sector and learning
- Identifying opportunities for learning in the workplace
- Introduction to personal development planning
Sector Specific
- The nature, scale and range of activities with the sector SWOT
- The factors influencing the sector e.g. historical, political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal. PESTEL
