As the leading authority for businesses trading globally, we pride ourselves on our world-renowned suite of qualifications and training. We are delighted to announce the latest in our ever growing list of academic offerings – the BSc (Hons) Management Practice – International Trade, delivered in collaboration with Plymouth University.
Plymouth University has worked with the Institute of Export and agreed to accept the Diploma level – currently delivered by the Institute through its online programme – as the entry level for the two year, work-based, top-up degree.
The course, which is being launched in September, provides the IOE with an education progression that ranges from NVQ 1 level equivalent through to BSc.
Open to both IOE and non-IOE members, it is specifically aimed at those with prior workplace experience who wish to extend their existing knowledge and qualifications. It has been designed in line with national and international best practice and in consultation with local and global partners and professional bodies.
The degree plugs the gap in frontline management skills, and aims to provide graduates with a unique combination of module study and a high level of work-based learning that will equip them with a general understanding of organisations. The content includes structures, cultures, processes and procedures relating to International management, including the wider organisational environment in which they operate.
Students are required to select two specialism modules – International Trade Operations and Strategy and International Trade Policy and Compliance, in addition to the core degree modules.
The International Trade Operations and Strategy module focuses on strategic management decision making techniques in the context of international trade operations, whilst the International Trade Policy and Compliance module explores international law and the regulations that govern the international trade environment.
Upon completion of the course, graduates will have amassed knowledge, understanding and experience in their specialist subjects, as well as wide-ranging skills in areas such as IT, communication, critical thinking and research. They will understand the complexities of internal and external organisational environments and have acquired the skills and techniques relevant to the management of markets, customers, finance, people, operations and for effective decision making and performance as a practicing manager.
The course is also recognised by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) – the world’s largest professional body for insurance and financial services.
Lesley Batchelor OBE, director general of the Institute of Export says: “As a professional membership body representing and supporting the interests of everyone involved in importing, exporting and international trade, we are delighted to be delivering this qualification in partnership with Plymouth University.
“It has always been our vision to work with quality universities that really understand how international trade works.”
Dr Lise Hunter, Lecturer, Plymouth University and past student of the IOE Diploma course comments: “Working in collaboration with the IOE will mean that students not only gain specialist knowledge and skills necessary to advance their careers in a vibrant and diverse industry, but they will have also developed a lasting relationship with an organisation that is globally recognised as a leading authority in global exporting.”
The tuition fees are £8,000.00 for the duration of the course although members of the Institute will be happy to hear that they will benefit from a special price of £7000!
